I graduated from Drew University with a degree in French Literature; I returned to pursue graduate studies and completed a Ph. D. In English Literature. I have taught writing and literary interpretation throughout my working life.
I have always loved art and have painted from childhood. I have taken many art classes and experimented with many media throughout the years; I work in acrylics because they allow me to build up layers of paint and to scrape and scratch away existing surfaces to reveal texture and hidden colors.
I am inspired by the natural world of landscape and seascape and the infinite possibilities it offers for exploration. I am currently working on a series of paintings that explore color relationships and the primacy of the horizon as we contemplate the expanse of nature. My intention is suggestion not representation, the essential not the particular, poetry not prose.
